From the Danish ‘Hygge’ to the Swedish ‘Lagom’, wellness practices have bypassed borders and new ideas from across the globe are spreading like a wildfire as more and more people are implementing these concepts into their life. One such concept comes from a Blue Zone region, Japan, and some of you might have already heard the buzz – ‘IKIGAI’. This amazing concept associated with the OKINAWA Island of Japan also called the Island of Longevity is all about living life with a sense of purpose.

Wait! Living with a sense of purpose? That sounds intriguing. But, what if I can’t find my purpose? Your purpose might be a bit cloudy, or perhaps you have many Ikigai’s fighting for that spotlight, trust me it’s utterly human. According to the concept of Ikigai, your core purpose lies at the center of four elements: Passion, mission, vocation, and profession. I want you to ask yourself, what is that one thing that makes you want to get up in the morning? What is the one thing that encourages you to work hard every day, and put colors in your life? Once you identify your true motivation – Boom! You found your IKIGAI.

For most of us, our Ikigai is so obvious that there is no need to second guess it because we might already have it pinned to our mirror or set as a phone background. Perhaps, it could be gardening or teaching young individuals, or maybe Video logging.  Just think of it as an activity that you see yourself doing passionately at the very end of your time here on earth. Your Ikigai is at the juncture of what you’re good at and what you love doing because it combines your talent with your passion to form a purpose.

The problem with many of us is that we stop being curious about new experiences as we take up responsibilities and develop our routines, and ultimately our sense of wonder perishes leaving us with a boring and dull life. But, with Ikigai we can change that, all we need is to ask ‘what makes us come alive’ and just go do it. Because what the world really needs are people who have come alive.

IKIGAI – with its concept of finding our true purpose might just help us live a more fulfilling life. Find it, and pursue it with everything you’ve got because anything less is just not worth your limited time here on earth.

See you Next Time!
